World Lacrosse completed the second half of its 2021 General Assembly on Sunday. Following the event, there were announcements of new changes and additions to the sport in the coming years.

First, the organization detailed structural changes for the men's and women's senior World Championship tournaments that will see the creation of two divisions. The change increases the number of teams in the competition from 30 to 40. This new format will not go into effect until 2026.

World Lacrosse Vice President Steve Stenersen said, "I'm proud of the efforts of the Blue Skies Working Group and grateful to its members for contributing significant time, wisdom, and perspective to ensure these recommendations would meet the expectations of the global lacrosse community and continue to advance our sport. I'm equally grateful to our World Lacrosse members for their faith and vision in approving this exciting evolution of our competition framework."

The second big piece of news unveiled was that the very first Women's Box Lacrosse World Championship will be held in conjunction with the men's event in 2024. While a location for the event hasn't been announced yet, World Lacrosse is currently in the process of accepting bids for sites interested in hosting the event.

Finally, World Lacrosse announced the election of Sabah S. Cambrelen as the board's first diversity & inclusion director. The news follows the adoption of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies that were taken up on day one of the Assembly.
