Delaware Defeats #18 Johns Hopkins | LSN Game Recap

by Thomas McNeeley Mar 22, 2022

A Sunday night, stand-alone game under the lights was the energy that the Delaware Blue Hens needed as they welcomed #18 Johns Hopkins to town. "The crowd today was electric. It was incredible and we played off that energy," said head coach Ben DeLuca.

The Blue Hens started the game off great as they scored three goals in the first quarter and played stellar defense to shut out Johns Hopkins. Tye Kurtz and Mike Robinson scored the first two goals of the game for Delaware as they foreshadowed the great performances they would have throughout the night.

Johns Hopkins would come to life in the 2nd quarter as they matched Delaware, scoring four goals each in the next 15 minutes of the game. Both goalies in the meeting played great in net. Johns Hopkins goalie Josh Kirson had 13 saves while Delaware goalie Paul Reidy had 12. Reidy, a freshman, had previously recorded a career-high 7 saves.

Another key difference in the game was with faceoffs and ground balls. Delaware’s Logan Premtaj was able to win 15 faceoffs. It recorded the third-straight game with 15+ faceoff wins for the sophomore. Delaware also won the ground ball battle, 34-26.

Delaware had 10 previous meetings with Johns Hopkins prior to the Sunday night tilt. Delaware never once won a matchup as they had gone 0-10 over the years. The last meeting between the two programs came on March 16, 2019 as Johns Hopkins defeated Delaware, 12-10.

Mike Robinson led the way for Delaware scoring 5 goals in the game. It was the fourth time this season that the reigning CAA Rookie of the Year scored 5+ goals in a game. Tye Kurtz also provided 3 goals and 1 assist in the big win.

Delaware will look to continue playing well and build off the momentum as they will faceoff against Villanova on Saturday, March 26. After that game they will begin conference play as they travel to UMass on Saturday, April 2, a CAA Game of the Week that you can watch on Lax Sports Network
