Lacrosse Now Recap | January 13th

by Thomas McNeeley Jan 14, 2022

Lax Sports Network’s Tom Eschen and Travis Eldridge discussed a wide array of topics in the latest edition of Lacrosse Now which premiered on LSN on Thursday, January 13th and is now available on YouTube and as an audio podcast.

Here is a rundown of the topics covered:

World Lacrosse announced that the 2023 Men’s World Championship will be held in San Diego, California. It will be the sport’s first world championship to be held in the state of California. The event will feature 30 teams and more than 100 games will be played from June 21 to July 1, 2023.

The tournament will showcase the sport of lacrosse and the top teams in the world ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games set to take place in Los Angeles. Games will be held at San Diego State University in their new 35,000-seat Snapdragon Stadium. Nearby University of San Diego will also host games at 6,000-seat Torero Stadium. USA Will be looking to defend its 2018 title, when they defeated Canada 9-8 in Netanya, Israel.

Travis and Tom also discuss the National Lacrosse League. The two look back at a past Lacrosse Now episode where they chose what players and teams to invest in. Weeks ago, Tom decided to invest in Panther City’s Patrick Dodds. Dodds has 12 points over the course of four games. Does Tom hold on to his stock in Dodds or does he sell it? Does Travis believe there is still upside in the Vancouver Warriors who sit in 3rd place with a 2-2- record, or does he want to sell his stock immediately? Tune in to find out the guy’s stock moves.

Maryland Attackman Logan Wisnauskas will also join the show as he gets ready for the 2022 season that is less than a month away. The boys down in College Park are hungrier than ever for a national championship after the 17-16 loss to Virginia in the 2021 title game. Wisnauskas said “The hunger is there… 75-80% of the team last year smelled that and you know it still burns, we’re at the base of the mountain and come February 5th it’s time to start climbing the mountain again.”

Finally, Tom and Travis preview the Northeast Conference and the Colonial Athletic Association. Both conferences have sleeper teams amongst them who showed promise in 2021. Bryant represented the NEC in the NCAA Tournament First Round and took Virginia down to the final minute of the game in a tough 13-11 loss to the eventual National Champions. Out of the CAA was Drexel who lost to Notre Dame 10-8 in the First Round as well. Both conferences showed they could put up a fight with the big dogs. Do Tom and Travis think Bryant and Drexel will be back in the NCAA Tournament? What are their thoughts on the women’s side?
