World Lacrosse Super Sixes event in Baltimore a success

A World Lacrosse Super Sixes event at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Maryland last weekend featured men’s and women’s teams from the US, Canada and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.

The tournament featured 12 games between the six teams all of which were shown live on Lax Sports Network and can be found on-demand at LaxSportsNetwork.com.  The USA National Teams combined to go 3 and 1 in their four games.

PLL Rookie of the Year Jeff Teat, of Canada, was the offensive star of the men’s tournament with 12 goals and 19 points.  The Canadian teams also combined to go 3 and 1 over the two-day tournament.

Canadian star Dana Dobbie, who finished with 12 points on the weekend, said of the event, “Sixes brings out the best in the lacrosse player, it forces us to play fast, physical and make split-second decisions on both sides of the ball – everything we love about field and box rolled into one discipline. The consistency between the men’s and women’s games has finally been created. All players and fans now have the format of lacrosse they’ve been waiting for. I truly believe Sixes will eliminate the discrepancy between counties and allow for quicker growth for the sport of lacrosse around the globe. If you haven’t played it yet, you’re missing out!”

World Lacrosse CEO Jim Scherr, who has led the push to get lacrosse into the Olympics, was happy with how the event showcased the Sixes game. “The fastest game on two feet just got supercharged; Super Sixes was every bit as thrilling as we expected it to be, with fans glued to their seats and screens for a version of lacrosse we’ve never seen before. This was a historic moment for our sport, and a strong validation of the potential of this new discipline to make lacrosse a truly global game and allow us to realize our Olympic ambitions.”

The next World Lacrosse Sixes event is scheduled to take place December 2-5 in Costa Rica.
