Lax Sports Network’s Tom Eschen and Travis Eldridge discussed a wide array of topics in the latest edition of Lacrosse Now which premiered on LSN on Thursday, February 3rd and is now available on YouTube and as an audio podcast.
Here is a rundown of the topics covered:
Travis and Tom open this week’s show with an important conversation on America East’s decision to ban Stony Brook from the conference tournament this spring. The decision was made due to the pending move by Stony Brook as they plan to join the Colonial Athletic Association for the 2022-23 academic school year. This means that Stony Brook will only be able to qualify for the NCAA Tournament through an at-large bid. Many believe this is too harsh of a punishment for the student-athletes at Stony Brook. Travis stated: “All this is affecting is the student-athletes… Can we just get rid of this? Because it is not affecting the athletic departments and it is not stopping them [the schools] from leaving… Stop hurting the student-athletes here… Let's get rid of it.”
Inside Lacrosse & the IWLCA released their preseason top 25 poll last week. To no surprise the defending NCAA National Champions Boston College Eagles sit atop the poll at the #1 spot. Travis’ biggest surprise in the poll was Maryland being ranked #9. Do the Terrapins deserve to be ranked higher due to their recent history and tradition in College Park? Tom’s biggest surprise has to do with the North Carolina Tar Heels. Tune into the episode to find out what his thoughts are on the poll.
Penn’s All-American midfielder Sam Handley joins the show as well as Florida’s All-American goalie Sarah Reznick. Handley talks about his love for the television show “Yellowstone” and his chance to return to the field after two quiet years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Reznick speaks on how she became a lacrosse goalie and being an athletic sophomore at Florida after spending three years on campus.
Finally, Travis and Tom continue their conference previews as they take a look at the ACC and then also let the listeners know what weekend games they planned on watching. Be sure to listen to the show in podcast form or watch on Youtube.
