Senior Attackman Joey Epstein led Johns Hopkins to an 18-12 victory over crosstown rival Towson on Friday, February 11th in a game seen live on Lax Sports Network.
Epstein scored 6 of the Blue Jays' 18 goals including 5 in the second quarter when they put the game away. Garrett Degnon added 4 goals, while Brendan Grimes netted 3 and Jacob Angelus added a pair for Johns Hopkins whose starting attack and midfield combined for 17 goals and 11 assists. Tyler Dunn controlled the X winning 20 of 32 faceoffs.
Towson got 4 goals from Kyle Berkeley, his first four career goals. Nick DeMaio and Andrew Milani each recorded hat tricks. Milani added two assists to lead the Tigers with 5 points.
The Blue Jays lead 5-4 after the first quarter and looked in command of the game after outscoring Towson 7-2 in the second but the Tigers cut the lead to 14-12 after three-quarters thanks to a five-goal run to end the third. Hopkins rebounded and shut out Towson in the final quarter to gain the victory.
Josh Kirson and Gib Versfeld each played a half in goal for Johns Hopkins. Kirson registered 4 saves and Versfeld had 5. Shane Brennan had 13 saves for Towson.
