Charlotte North, Boston College Women’s Lacrosse Flying High Into 2022 Season After Historic 2021 Campaign

by Thomas McNeeley Dec 17, 2021

Charlotte North and the Boston College Eagles look to continue their success after a historic campaign in 2021 that saw them finish with an 18-3 record. The season culminated with a 16-10 win in the National Championship against ACC rival Syracuse. The two programs had faced off four times during the season and split the series 2-2. North led the Eagles with six goals in the championship victory.

The Eagles had reached the finals in three consecutive years from 2017-2019 with losses to Maryland (2017, 2019) and James Madison (2018). 2021 was finally the year for Boston College as they were able to get over the hump and raise the NCAA National Championship trophy.

LSN’s Travis Eldridge alluded to the fact that the 2020 shortened season helped set up the 2021 season for Charlotte as it gave her more time to learn a new situation as it was her first year in Boston.

“I think it definitely played a role, I mean that year, 2020 was challenging for everyone in the world and I was fortunate enough to come into Boston College that year and be welcomed in by this amazing group of girls & this incredible program and culture that has been built by Acacia and her staff and it was really a great year of learning and adjusting… We used the time apart to think of ways we could have gotten better from where we were and become closer as a team and start to build heading into 2021.”

North had an incredible season as she scored an NCAA record 102 goals and was second in the nation in points with 114. The BC attacker also won the Tewaaraton Award and was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

When asked about how the team will follow up last season’s success North said “We have a great group this year. Every year is so different, we started this fall and we came in and we really attacked every facet of our game…In the weight room, conditioning, and on the field together and I think we grew a lot as a team this fall. We had a lot of chances to compete again after fall ball last year was a little bit different.”

The Eagles open their 2022 season on Saturday, February 12th at home vs Northwestern University. Other key dates include March 19th vs North Carolina and a National Championship rematch on April 23rd vs Syracuse. The ACC Championship Tournament is scheduled for April 27 - May 1, 2021, in South Bend, Indiana.
