Marc Riccio has spent a lifetime in and around lacrosse. Now looks to combine his love of the sport and his recent business success as he takes over for Steve Stenerson as USA Lacrosse CEO.
After a career working with the New York Jets, and major sports brands including KlarisIP, Lagardere Sports (now Sportfive) and LXL Sports & Entertainment, Marc Riccio says it was the people in the sport who influenced his life that led him to his new role:
"The sport itself and the community is something that is incredibly special, and it changed my life. It changed my life in very profound and positive ways, but not only the sport but the coaches and teammates that are part of the infrastructure"
Riccio played for coach John Danowski at Hofstra in the 1980s and has seen the sport grow and evolve since his playing days. “The sport and all sport will always evolve. How we played the game fundamentally is the same but everything around it continues to evolve. Fast forward to where we are today and moving forward and I’m excited about where the sport can continue to go in terms of evolution and change. All sport should evolve, all businesses all organizations should evolve. Evolve or die as the saying goes.”
Riccio’s new job, while incredibly impressive, might not rank as the biggest accomplishment among his college suite mates. While at Hofstra he shared a suite with current Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper who has led his team to back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships.
"We have a college group chat and I got my fair share of ribbing as did Coop in terms of the run we’ve had the last couple of months.”
