BLOCK A: Screenwriter/Director/Producer Adele Lim is a force to be reckoned with! She’s been pivotal in breaking barriers when it comes to representing marginalized communities and pitching their stories in Hollywood. In addition to multiple television credits, Adele is known for her work on Raya and the Last Dragon and Crazy Rich Asians. She recently made her directorial debut with Joy Ride (Lionsgate), which she also co-wrote. Adele is originally from Malaysia and shares her personal journey about moving to the US on her own, navigating the writer's room in Hollywood, and how Asian Americans have the right to have their stories told and deserve to be the heroes of those stories. She's also mentored young writers for the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE). She says, “Do not be afraid to fail”. This year Adele was among the 2023 inductees into the Asian Hall of Fame. Asian Hall of Fame educates the public about Asian contributions to the US and the world and promotes Asian artistic excellence and cross-cultural narrative. The event was celebrated in Los Angeles. BLOCK B: Since its beginning Chicago Musical has had a certain type of character play the role of Mama Morton. But now with a push for greater inclusivity and awareness the longest- running Broadway musical show has cast Asian American actress Lili Thomas to play Mama Morton.
