Lax Sports Network’s Tom Eschen and Travis Eldridge discussed a wide array of topics in the latest edition of Lacrosse Now which premiered on LSN on Thursday, December 16th, and is now available on YouTube and as an audio podcast.
Here is a rundown of the topics covered:
Lars Tiffany joins the show to talk to Tom and Travis about his team’s approach for the 2022 season. He went on to explain that after the team won the National Championship in 2019 he did not want any talk of “repeat” or “defend” to be used in the locker room or around the offices. After the 2020 canceled season Coach Tiffany took a step back, revaluated his approach, and decided to have fun with a new mindset for the 2021 season, one that had a theme of “Once you win one, you can really get on a roll.” And the Cavaliers did just that as they then went on to win another title. They will look to continue their success and complete the 3-peat in 2022.
Travis and Tom also discuss what players under 25 years old they would invest in when it comes to the Premier Lacrosse League. As Inside Lacrosse reported, the PLL will be giving the coaches the ability to make decisions on player compensation. Teams will have a spending pool of 735,000 annually and must use 98% of those funds each year. Every player is guaranteed to make at least $25,000 per year. That will give teams a little more than $100,000 to invest into players. What young talent do Tom and Travis think can shine in the future of the league? Tune in to find out.
The guys also give a preview of the Big East Conference for the men’s and women’s games. The Georgetown Bulldogs won the 2021 Men’s Big East Conference Championship as they defeated the Denver Pioneers 10-9. On the women’s side, it was the Denver Pioneers who were crowned as they defeated UConn 13-7. Tom and Travis will provide their conference favorites as well as their dark horses for the upcoming 2022 season.
Finally, a look around the National Lacrosse League also sparks a debate. What teams and players are real and what ones are fake? Who got hot to start the season and will begin to cool off? Or are some teams the real deal? Then the conversation turns to success off the lacrosse field. Tom and Travis take a look at former Tewaaraton Award winner Pat Spencer’s basketball career and former Maryland All-American Jared Bernhardt’s football career.
