#8 Rutgers Defeats Hofstra 22-10 | LSN Game Recap

by Bailey Kennedy Mar 19, 2022

Junior attackmen Ross Scott led Rutgers to a 22-10 victory over Hofstra on Saturday, March 19th in a game seen live on Lax Sports Network.

Scott led the way for the Scarlet Knights with five points on the day on two goals and three assists. From the first whistle, the game was never really close. In fact, Rutgers would score the first 10 goals of the game and had a commanding 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, and would add three more to start the second quarter before Hofstra would find the back of the net for their first goal of the game. Rutgers had complete control taking a 13-2 lead into the half.

The Scarlet Knights would cruise through the rest of this game and would take a 22-10 victory back with them to New Jersey. It was a complete team effort from Rutgers, which had nineteen different players record at least one point and had seventeen different goal scorers. From top to bottom it was a complete team effort from Rutgers who got to see a ton of players take the field in the win.

Although the scoring might have been spread out from top to bottom the Scarlet Knights still got their production from their usual suspects with Scott putting up his five points in this game, it became the fifth time this season he had five or more points in a game. Two senior transfers also played well in this game with UPenn transfer and Attackmen Mitch Bartolo having another stellar day at the office with a casual one-goal, two-assist performance. Making it the eighth time this season Bartolo has put up three or more points. The other senior transfer Midfielder Brian Cameron also had another stellar day. The former North Carolina Tar Heel netted three goals in the win. Making in the fourth game of the season that Cameron had netted three or more goals in eight games he played this year.

Hofstra was led by junior attackmen Ryan Sheridan who led the team with three points on two goals and an assist. Fellow attackmen and senior classmates Matt Elder and Dylan McIntosh each netted two points in the game. With Elder getting a goal and an assist while McIntosh netted two goals in the loss. Junior goalie Mac Gates got the start and made twelve saves in between the pipes for the Pride.

The twenty-two-goal outburst for the Rutgers offense was nothing unusual for them as it was the third time this season the team had scored twenty or more goals and the second straight game the team accomplished this.

Rutgers head coach Brian Brecht had the opportunity to get multiple different goalies in the cage in the team's big victory seeing five different goalies step in the cage. The traditional starter Colin Kirst was once again given the start and played the whole first half making five saves while allowing just two goals. Brecht then called upon another senior in Providence transfer Toby Burgdorf to jump in cage. The transfer played the whole third quarter making three saves while allowing four goals. The fourth quarter then saw three goalies get some action with senior Stephen Russo starting the 4th quarter and playing 8:22 of the quarter and making two saves without allowing a single goal. Freshman Ellis Stedfast then got in cage and played 3:50 of the fourth quarter and allowed two goals in that time. Finally sophomore Liam Gray closed things out playing the last 2:48 of the ball game making three saves and allowing two goals.

With the win, Rutgers Scarlet Knights moved to 8-1 on the season while the Hofstra Pride fell to 4-5.
