by Bailey Kennedy Mar 18, 2022

Sophomore Midfielder Ellie Masera led Stony Brook to a 12-6 victory over Hofstra on Friday, March 18th in a game seen live on Lax Sports Network.

Masera lead the way for the Seawolves with seven points on the night on six goals and one assist. It was a tightly contested battle for three quarters with Hofstra with the score being six to five with 11:23 remaining in the third quarter. Stony Brook proceed to go on a six goal run to put the game out of reach. The run was sparked by Jaden Jampel on an assist from Ellie Masera. As part of the 6-0 run Masera would add two goals to go along with that assist being involved on three of the six Seawolves goals in the 6-0 run. Junior Attacker Kailyn Hart also added two goals of her own on the 6-0 run as well. Junior Attacker Morgan Mitchell capped off the 6-0 run with the final goal for the Seawolves to put them up 12-5 with 1:33 to go in the game.

Hofstra was lead by senior attacker Amanada Guerra who led the team with three points on three goals. Graduate Student midfielder Arianna Esposito also added two goals of her own and fellow midfielder junior Taylor Mennella dished out two assists. Senior goalie for the Pride Jess Smith got the start and made fives in between the pipes.

The performance from Masera was a career day for her. Setting her career high for points (seven) and goals (six) in a game in her Seawolves career. The sophomore will have plenty of more games in her career to see if she can break those single game records.

Kelly Berger was on the call with our Tom Eschen for the Seawolves win and both saw the career day from Masera.

Stony Brook Seawolves lead by head coach Joe Spallina saw two goalies play in this one with Graduate Student and former Virginia Cavalier Charlie Campbell get the start and play fantastic in the first half making four saves while allowing just two goals. Redshirt Senior Kameron Halsall played the second half making just one save in her thirty minutes of action in the Seawolves 12-6 win.

The battle at the draw was very even between these two with Stony Brook taking twelve of the twenty-two draws. Giving them a slight advantage at the draw circle.

With the win, Stony Brook Seawolves moved to 4-2 on the season while the Hofstra Pride fell to 6-2.
