Logan Wisnauskas & the Terrapins Hungry in 2022

by Thomas McNeeley Jan 14, 2022

The Maryland Terrapins are back on campus as they gear up for the 2022 season that is less than a month away. A player who will be getting plenty of attention this year will be attackman Logan Wisnauskas. The 2021 First-Team All-Big Ten selection was second on the team in goals (41) and points (72) over the course of last season. The player who was first on the team? That would go to Jared Bernhardt, who recently won the D-II National Championship in football at Ferris State this past fall.

With the departure of Bernhardt, Wisnauskas will have all eyes on him whether he likes it or not. This will be his team to lead back to Championship Weekend in late May. When asked about how he will receive more attention this year, Wisnauskas stated “It goes back to the fundamentals… The departure of Jared, you know obviously that is going to be tough on anyone, but there are six guys on the field playing offense for a reason and it’s going to be a well-oiled machine come February 5th.”

Coach John Tillman will look for his team to continue their success after a stellar 2021 season that saw the team compile a 15-1 record (10-0 ACC) en route to the National Championship. In the end, Maryland fell short in the title game as they lost to Virginia 17-16 in the final seconds.

The big-game experience will only bring more hunger to the Maryland program. As Logan said, “The hunger is there… 75-80% of the team last year smelled that and you know it still burns, we’re at the base of the mountain, and come February 5th it’s time to start climbing the mountain again.”

The team opens their season against High Point, their first non-conference regular-season matchup since 2020. The Terrapins will also have key games at Syracuse and versus Princeton to finish the first month of the season. A highly anticipated National Championship rematch versus Virginia will take place on Saturday, March 19. The time and location have yet to be determined. Big Ten play will begin on Sunday, March 27 at Penn State.
