Lax Sports Network’s Tom Eschen and Travis Eldridge discussed a wide array of topics in the latest edition of Lacrosse Now which premiered on LSN on Thursday, December 9th and is now available on YouTube and as an audio podcast.
Here is a rundown of the topics covered:
The NLL season is underway. Tom and Travis talked about which teams and players have seen their stocks rise in the early part of the season. Tom is high on the San Diego Seals offense led by Dane Dobbie and Tre Leclaire while Travis is buying in on the Vancouver Warriors and their goalie Alex Buque and rookie Reid Bowering.
When it comes to individual players, Tom is buying Panther City forward Patrick Dodds who had a goal and four assists last week. Travis’ pick is Lyle Thompson who didn’t have a typical Lyle Thompson game in week one but in Travis’ opinion will rebound as the season continues.
In the next segment, the discussion shifted to NCAA Women’s lacrosse. The topic: Is Stanford the next Northwestern? The Cardinal have the top recruiting class in the nation, according to Inside Lacrosse, can head coach Danielle Spencer turn that success into wins on the field and become a player on the national scene and compete with teams like Northwestern, Boston College, Syracuse, and North Carolina?
The women’s lacrosse discussion continued in an interview with Boston College and USA Lacrosse star Charlotte North fresh off her performance in Dallas at the IWLCA President’s Cup. Some of the other topics covered were her relationship with Syracuse Head Coach Kayla Treanor, how she can follow up on her incredible 2021 season which included a national championship and winning the Tewaaraton Award as the nation’s top player, the dynamic that exists in the house she shares with her BC teammates and the new Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) rule in the NCAA.
With the college season right around the corner, Tom and Travis began their conference previews with the Patriot League picking their favorites and sleeper teams to watch in 2022. On the men’s side, the conference features ranked teams Army, Lehigh, and Loyola who upset Denver last season in the NCAA tournament. As far as a potential sleeper team, both see Boston University as a young team who could make some noise in the conference this season. On the women’s side, Tom sees it as a tough choice between two teams while Travis thinks it’s a slam dunk with one team having the potential to be a top-five team nationally. As far as a sleeper, Travis looks to Navy and legendary head coach Cindy Timchal. Tom, on the other hand, sees Army as a team that could surprise.
